Show Us How You would Help
Improve the World and Win!

Global climate change and environmental crises, in addition to a worldwide pandemic, have made all of us more cautious about our health and impacted our lifestyle. However, the infrastructure around us remains the same. The evolution of infrastructure has always been inspired and influenced by young minds. Every time an infrastructure challenge surfaces, innovations appear and overcome them. We want to see your innovations.

In stage one we ask you to develop a concept or an idea (individually or in a team of 2) of how YOU can change the world with infrastructure. The top 20 teams will win USD 500 each! If you make it to the top 10 teams, you will move on to stage two, where you will get an exclusive opportunity to attend masterclasses with Bentley experts to bring your ideas to life using Bentley applications.

The best project will be recognized as “Future Infrastructure Star 2021” at the 2021 Going Digital Awards and wins a cash prize of USD 5,000!
Stage 1
Conceptualization
You can submit your ideas for the next big infrastructure project in one of the following categories:
ROAD AND RAIL
BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES
WATER AND WASTEWATER
CITIES AND MAPPING
POWER GENERATION

We want you to think BIG here. Maybe it’s a hospital for COVID-19 patient overflow or an offshore wind farm to power a coastal city… whatever you can think of. If it can be built, create it!

Stage 2
Design and Visualization

If you submitted one of the top 10 ideas that advances to this stage, you will work with your educators, any subject matter expert, or professionals to build a design model based on your idea submitted in stage 1 using Bentley applications. Your project will be uploaded to the portal and competes for the public prize that is awarded to the project with the most public votes.

During the design and visualization phase, you will work on various elements of modeling, designing, scheduling, and visualization with guidance from you mentors, helping you bring your concepts to a stable design.

You will also be eligible to attend masterclasses hosted by Bentley subject matter experts. The masterclasses will be in the form of self- paced learning, so you can work on your design models and share them with your mentors for assistance and feedback, when required.

Time to become an Infrastructure Star
The winners will be recognized during the 2021 Going Digital Awards at Bentley's virtual Year in Infrastructure event this year!

It’s All In The Details – Stage 1

Your project will be judged and scored based on:
  • Number of people who benefit from your idea
  • Use of smart innovation
  • Severity of the situation
  • Capability for future development
  • Scalability in terms of economical and constructional activities
  • Way that the project addresses aspects of health and lifestyle, such as public health, lifestyle changes, disinfection facilities in public places, or disposal of biodegradables
The aim of the challenge is to address environmental issues, causes, and effects in the respective infrastructure domain. Keep these things in mind when you come up with your concept:
  • Immediate priorities
  • Pollution check
  • Efficiency of designs, processes, management, and materials
  • Existing and new governmental and environmental policies
  • Recycling
Your project should incorporate the Internet of Things (IoT) and other technological integrations, such as sensors, data analysis, connected data environment, social media and mobile apps, and asset management.
Always keep in mind that the solution should be able to be scaled into a design model.

Stage 1: What Judges Want To See

Remember, your project will be judged and scored based on the number of people who benefit from their idea, their use of smart innovation, the severity of the situation, the capability for future development, and the scalability in terms of economic and construction activities. Judges will also consider how participants address aspects of health and lifestyle.
The following is the classification of the weightage given
  1. Conceptualizing the infrastructure – 50%
  2. Addressing the environmental challenges – 30%
  3. Optimum use of IoT as part of the solution – 20%
A jury of experts will select the best 20 ideas, and each top 20 teams will be awarded a cash prize of USD 500. The top 10 winners will also qualify for the next stage: Design and Visualization.

Stage 1: What You Should Submit

  1. Use the templates provided to create your submission files
  2. An essay (1000 - 1500 words in a PDF file) describing the infrastructure and ideas to protect and secure the environment, providing a healthy way of using the utilities where IoT can play a role in easing the process and accessibility
  3. PowerPoint presentation and video describing your ideas (PowerPoint maximum: 20 slides; Video maximum: 5 minutes)
  4. One additional document to support your idea in the form of a PDF file (.pdf) It may include any form of research or experiment performed by the participant. (not mandatory)
  5. All the files need to be zipped and saved by the name of your registered email ID before submitting

Stage 2: What You Should Submit

  1. The design model and visualization model in the Bentley output file format with all the design files (Note: you will be thoroughly assisted by subject matter experts for your project submission)
  2. A short video describing your idea, innovation design model, and thoughts behind what inspired you to take up the challenge and come up with the solution (max 5 minutes). This video will be posted on Bentley Education’s YouTube channel and links will be shared on other social media platforms to give your awesome project the visibility that it deserves!
  3. Your project—including your essay, supplemental documentation, design model, and other videos—will be available on the Bentley Education portal to share with other students around the world.

Stage 2: What Do Judges Want To See

Your project will be judged and scored on the design parameters and your ability to justify the design language to the judges. The following is the classification of weightage given to each parameter:
  1. Modeling and Design – 50%
  2. Analysis of design for stability, economically and scalability – 50%
